SPECULATION Romance - who falls for who in VIII?

I give Maz and Ackbar a go. Chewy has already a Porg (and probably some Ewoks at home)

 

From how fast paced this movie seems, I don't think we'll see a romance this film.

Though there could be seeds sown for Episode 9.

 

I agree that neither Rey nor Kylo Ren will have a romantic relationship with anyone in this trilogy. They have so many things they have to cover that I really don't think anyone is trying to focus on developing a romance. Rey and Kylo Ren's relationship (presumably as family) will obviously be very important, but there's obviously nothing romantic there (in my opinion). I think Finn and Rose are the most likely relationship. I don't see them pushing it with Poe and anyone, to be honest.

To be honest, I think these films are really about people reaching their full potential. I see Rey and Finn becoming part of a family in different ways because both of them are clearly looking for that. (Rey with Luke, Leia, and Ben, once he is redeemed, and Finn starting a family with Rose—at least in the sense that they end up together). Poe, on the other hand, reaches his potential by taking over as general of the Resistance for Leia. (Plus, Leia views him as a surrogate son anyways because of what happened with Ben.)

That's just my opinion, though.

 

It will be strange if there isn't some kind of hook up. In each trilogy there has been one, but I guess it it isn't really necessary. But if I had to say there was gonna be one maybe Finn and Rose.

 

Boyega said that romace in VIII isn't going to go the way people think.

I believe actors are aware of what people speculate about.

Therefore he debunked:

- Finn and Rey
- Finn and Poe
- Rey and Kylo

I cannot say he debunked Finn Rose because by that time, no one knew about Rose.

It's interesting. For the first time, the STAR WARS saga has a potential biracial romance. Yet, many people either want Rey to have a romance with Kylo Ren or have no romantic interest at all.

 

Which is VERY telling, seeing how a romance between Rey and Kylo could be incestuous...but I hear there's plenty of that going on in Game of Thrones.

 

Its....very interesting that the first true female lead in SW has all these people wanting her to bang the antagonist. Aside from that, I don't see how anyone who is a fan of good writing, could want such a thing. Reylo would completely blow up the character of rey in that it would confirm that she's a sh**y person. First this kid tortures you, murders your newly met mentor figure, and nearly kills your first real friend by almost cutting him in half. Finn and Han stormed star killer base in order to rescue rey after kylo abducted her. What does rey do? jump into bed with kylo. That is a jump the shark moment if i ever saw one.

 

It's not because he's the antagonist, it's because he is one of the main characters. Naturally, people will ship the main characters with each other - no matter their gender, race, or which side they're on.

Then again, I'm not a proponent of Reylo.

 

I think Blastaar's main point was that this romance angle for Rey and Kylo is difficult to write well as it would require re-adjustments for characters outside of Rey and Kylo.

• On a lesser point you've got Poe who has been tortured by Kylo but then he doesn't really have a relationship with Rey so he's of less concern.
• But on a major point you have Finn who is Rey's first real friend and essentially the closest thing she has to family (if nothing else) who also witnessed Kylo kill Han (who Finn had also bonded with) and was then promptly brutalised by Kylo in the subsequent fight. How do you write Finn reacting to Rey cavorting about with his attempted murderer?

I've yet to see any "Reylo" speculation that takes into account these sorts of writing issues. But then many don't seem to think too deeply on how Kylo gets away from real "galactic justice" so to speak for his crimes, as long as mother forgives him I'm sure all shall be fine.

Blastaar thinks its racism but I just think its that classic "girls love bad boys thing".

I have an issue with that. Are we saying It's okay to kill the father, but we are crossing some crazy line if we kill our mother? It doesn't matter.

 

The thing is that Finn and Rey develop a classic friendship. They agree with each other, they witness things together, they understand each other, they work good as a team, and so on and so on. Not exactly the kind of stuff that attributes to romantic tension.

 

It does in context.
Han was a "bad dad" he bolted. He wasn't around. He was...a scoundrel.
Leia was the Princess. She was, by all accounts good to Ben it was his relationship with his father.

And there's a whole historical precedence for a boy killing his father for power and prestige and the historical notions of "maternal love" and being a momma's boy etc.

Oh no no. I'm not arguing in favour of Finn as a romantic partner, I would rather romance didn't take centre stage in anyone's storyline in the ST (its also why I'm wary of Rose).

However, what is undeniable is that (as of this moment) Finn is the most important person in Rey's life. He's the first person that came back for her, he's the closest thing she has to family, best buds etc. whatever. Taking this into account it is difficult to write Finn's reaction to a "reylo" romance without it essentially coming down to estranging Finn and Rey's relationship (non-romantically speaking).

And before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm not saying that Rey needs Finn's permission or any s**t like that but certainly she would have to factor in that Finn probably wouldn't understand and they probably wouldn't see each other any more. Rey will be going to those prison visits alone.

 

we don't know any of this. we have no idea what Han & Leia's relationship with Ben was like.
we can speculate based on their personalities and human nature, but we have zero hard facts at this moment.
we only know they had concerns about Ben and sent him away to Luke. that's it.

and as for Han, he was a respectable businessman and as close to Leia as their divergent paths would allow.
not sure why you think he was a bad dad and "bolted"?
yes, he left after Ben fell, but prior to that, we have no hint of trouble in Bloodline.

 

Last I checked those were the attributes of couples who have stable relationships. They respect each other. Kylo-I killed my family, but I got the force. Rey-Has no family, but she has the force. What a great pair they would make. No family structure, but they got the force, and the galaxy is going to stand up and clap.
