SPECULATION Romance - who falls for who in VIII?

Here is my take. I think everyone is wrong about Rey. I think her parents remain a mystery and she falls for Luke during training and they run off and have the next generation of Skywalkers. Yodas' Force Ghost officiates the wedding and they get Ben back to the Light Side by asking him to be best man. R2 and C3PO are the brides maids.

Yes, that may have been slightly coated in sarcasm.

 

I don't expect a romance like Han/Leia in VIII. Finn/Rose is the most plausible and most likely meant to brighten up the darker tones in the movie, but for the trilogy itself, I would not be surprised if it ends up being Ben/Rey. I watched VII expecting Finn/Rey and found myself wondering how such an obvious romance became friendzoned, and a deeper more intense relationship had developed between the heroine and the villain. I assume VIII will determine if that was intentional or unplanned.

Now, what kind of "You'll find out in December" is that? Is it a "that's not happening but obviously I can't say so" kind or a "yeah, that's totally happening. Ya welcome" kind. If it's the latter, I'd venture to say Reylo might actually be a thing that we see in the films, since the fan art in question appears very Reylo in nature.

There was a rumor of Rey falling down a cliff and Kylo is jumping after her. That's probably where this fan made picture comes from. I like the idea and it would make sense. Especially because Rey can't swim.

 

Yeah, I remember reading about that. I like it too and definitely agree that it would make sense. Not to mention be a pretty dramatic scene too.

 

The romance of the trilogy is going to be Maz and Chewie.....until his wife Mala turns up and we'll get a confrontation scene like the one between Anakin, Padme and Obi-wan on Mustafar.

Most people who are described as lovers don't tie down women against their will and make polite "take whatever I want" threats.

Most people don't start healthy relationships based on forcing themselves through phychological magic powers into the minds of their captives and reading those thoughts without permission. Its fiction sure but talk about a violent intense invaision of an other person. If reading minds like this was possible this exchange would be recognized as torture or rape. (As seen on Star Trek Enterprise).

 

For the "rape" argument, he's part of the Lucasfilm Story Group:



-That's a fairytale, it's not a depiction of reality.
-That's a war and Kylo and Rey are in 2 different camps.
-Rey is not a victim, she is strong and defeated Kylo.
-Character development will happen in 8 and 9, Kylo will change, Rey's feelings for Kylo will change

Sure that's true but forgiving repentant fathers after they kill the galaxy's top space tyrant its almost obligatory. . . a woman forgiving her attacker this to is noble but turning the tense moment of assault into the couple's meetcute for the film to set up future romance that goes a lot farther than forgiveness.

My guesses:

Rey - Won't end up with a partner in this trilogy, mirroring Luke in the OT.

Finn - Obviously has a crush on Rey, but will fall for Rose. However, Rose might die in TLJ, and Finn himself might die in IX (however it seems unlikely), so it's very speculative at this point.

Poe - He'll end up with Paige Tico, Rose's sister. Two X-wing pilots, that seems fitting. Unless Paige dies in TLJ, of course.

Kylo - Unless Kylo redeems himself, he will most definitely die in this trilogy. If he survives, he'll marry general Hux. Lol. Just kidding. He won't end up with a partner, similar to Rey.
