This part used to be MADDENING to me. It wasn't till I took a step back and realized there are some people who are fans and some who are apologists. And the latter has neither heard nor constructed a justification too far fetched that it couldn't be believed. It didn't matter what happened in TLJ, they were going to justify it and declare it genius. If Snoke had been preserved and Kylo had been killed, they would have found a way to argue that Kylo no longer served a purpose and didn't need to be explored further.

If they want to say there were some visuals and stylistic choices that Rian Johnson did that were breathtaking - fine, duly noted and agreed. Canto Bight was beautiful. Crait was beautiful. Hyperspace sequence, phenomenal. Finn-Phasma fight, almost blinding. The throne room battle was the throne room battle. It was great. But the story and coherence upon which these scenes rested was just riddled with intra-trilogy and intra-franchise flaws, inconsistencies, blind spots, and just plain misses that it defies spin-doctoring. No matter the amount of retroactive justifications, what we see on the screen is what we see on the screen. And it's bad.

Rogue One was awesome for many reasons, and one of them was resolving that old plot hole.

I disagree with your broader point that the Disney Star Wars films feel like they're being made by someone who is ashamed of Star Wars. To me the sequels (and just the sequels) feel very much like a clumsy approximation of Star Wars. It's kind of how I felt about Super 8, in that JJ Abrams tried to make a Spielberg movie using the elements of Spielberg movies without understanding why they worked or how to put them together. Most of his stuff has that derivative feeling to it. As fun as TFA was at times, it did not feel original, it felt like a bad facsimile of the original. Rian Johnson overcorrected and made a film that feels nothing like Star Wars (to me, at least).

I feel like to this point Disney has been very meticulous about grounding their films in the original lore. Not one film has been unconnected to the OT or has not included at least a couple of old characters. I think they wanted to play it safe with these movies, which is why the next film is a Solo film with Lando and Chewie. They loosened the reins for Johnson to disastrous effect, so we're going to have to wait and see how the two new trilogies and tv show play out, but at this point I don't feel super optimistic.

That said, some of the EU stuff and the KOTOR games show that excellent stories can still be made in this universe. It's just a question of putting the properties in the right hands.

Regarding cold war theme, it looks to me the Resistance (army?) khaki uniforms looks mighty like Soviet Afghanka. (They were Russian uniforms worn in the 1980s.)

SWsturm. I know the images is photoshopped, but man, I just don't think Finn and Rose would have the "feelings" to guffaw any time during TLJ. With everything happening. You don't laugh after witnessing a massacre. Especially when the massacre/tragedy happens to you.

What does one have to do with the other? R1 only explained how the DS1 flaw got there, not how Luke managed to make that shot. It was never “one in a million” anyway. He relied on the Force to help guide his actions. That was the whole point and R1 didn't change that.

I am a hater of TLJ and bare with me here. I went into the film FEARing what they would do with Luke. Than my fears were confirmed which lead to ANGER. Than my anger and self important opinions lead me to HATRED. So to the dark side I for one have gone. Once down the path of the dark side of TLJ forever will it dominate my destiny. I only need to become one with the TLJ again. or just never watch it again.

    This is perfect!! :D

So, I have to admit that the trailer for the Solo movie looked pretty good. However, I still don't want to pay for movie tickets until after I see some audience reactions. I want someone who didn't like TLJ to go see Solo and give me an honest review. So, which one of you want to do me that favor??:p;)

I won't pay to see Solo because the only way I have to say I don't like the way Disney is leading the boat is to stop giving my money.

And now, excuse me while I finish reading The Hutt Gambit.

@Bandini @Buckeye94 If you find someone who's willing, send me a message on their opinion. I'm pretty much thinking as you for future SW movies lol.

Still haven't watched TLJ since December.
Didn't buy the bluray or digital download, not even for the continuity of my VHS/DVD/Bluray collection of "all" Star Wars films.
Haven't even bothered with "unofficial" video sources either.

We have a bunch of movie theatre gift cards from Christmas to use so while we wouldn't actually be forking over our own money, I don't want to waste a gift card on a movie that I will leave the theatre shaking my head in disappointment in. I'm trying not to be seduced by a good looking trailer for a SW movie.

LOL. Yes, I'm going to need a full synopsis and some real audience reactions before driving to the theatre for any future SW movies. Especially Ep. 9. You can bet I'll be searching the internet for reactions and talking to friends and co-workers before buying tickets from now on.

So what's your criteria for not liking TLJ? Because I was disappointed in it, but that hasn't kept me from buying it and seeing any new SW film opening night.

I've been over and over everything I didn't like about it, but here's a short list. Stupid misplaced humor, no real plot that advanced the story, Luke milking the alien, Leia Poppins, Luke as a character, Rey's continued Mary Sue issues, the failure to flesh out new characters like Finn and Poe, wasting Snoke and Phasma after the build up. For once, I have no desire to rewatch a SW movie. I have not bought it and have no plans to.

On one hand, I'm trying to keep an open mind and not let my dislike for TLJ influence my feelings on new SW movies coming out. On the other hand, I feel like getting some real audience reactions and an idea of what the movie is about is a good idea so I'm not blindsided like with TLJ. You know the saying - Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me? That's where I'm at with Disney Star Wars. I'd like to go into any future movies kind of knowing what I'm getting into from now on.

For me, the saga is over from my point of view, they killed the characters I was interesting in and the story left isn't good enough to keep my interest in it.

I tell ya this, it is going to be verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting to see how Star Wars movies do when they don't have classic trilogy characters, storylines or settings to fall back on. Han, Luke and Leia are cultural icons. Rey, Finn and Poe? Uh, not so much.

I also think Disney is not accounting for how confusing this all may be to the casual fan (and that is also something which is very easy for hardcore fans like us to lose track of). The non-linear chronology of the movies as released is only going to get worse.
