I honestly never understood the big fervor over Midiclorians back in 1999. It served one purpose for me in the scene where QuiGon tests his blood and Obiwan said it's off the charts, even higher than Yoda. People don't appreciate that scene because it was a Prequel (and they already knew Anakin was Darth Vader), but if you are watching it 1-6, there are all these clues about this kid (Virgin birth, Highest Midiclorian Count, The only Human that can podrace).

    Obi-Wan quote (ANH)

    LUKE: "The Force?"
BEN: "It's an energy field created by all living things*. It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together."

    * midichlorians

They just didn't have a name when ANH was written.

I enjoyed TFA until Episode 8. I can't watch it anymore and VIII, while I own it on iTunes, I don't watch it. I enjoy Rogue One immensely (I'm watching it as I type this) and Solo, but the ST...

I preferred the idea of the force as more of a spiritual/magical thing vs. a biological thing. The midichlorian thing always felt like it belonged in Star Trek and not Star Wars. Having said that, after the crap they've served up as the ST, I long for the return of the midichlorians. As you said above, it helps explain where the force powers come from as well as the "power level" so to speak of the Jedi in question.

If I had a physical copy, I could definitely destroy it. Believe me. I hate the fact that I hate a Star Wars film, but I hate that one.

Like me @Darth Wardawg, you aren’t a Jedi, so it’s okay to hate it. I wish I didn’t hate it. I how I’ve tried not to hate it.

On Pratchetts Discworld it most likely would be more than OK to leave out a move between 7 and 9.

I'll be watching them in this order: Solo, Rogue One, A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, The Rise of Skywalker. I will totally skip the Last Jedi.

Honestly, you could just skip the entire film until Kylo kills Snoke. Literally nothing happened of consequence before that.

I just saw this today and laughed. I watch this guy once in a while and find him entertaining. I'd be curious to see what defense those who love the movie have for his points on Rey's lightsaber skills and editing when she should have been killed (honestly, it seems so rushed, they should have redone some scenes to avoid those obvious mistakes, especially when they obviously knew the mistakes were there.)..

Love you guy's double standard, awesome choreography Luke!!! AKA the whole Jabba Sail Barge scene choreography is horrible. When did a light saber become a a baseball bat? That's how he swings the light saber.

You can't with all seriousness include the Obi-wan vs Maul in that collection.

Considering, Maul's light saber doesn't even touch Obi-Wan's saber in that specific shot, so yes it's fair game. I'm just using the same logic as above and pointing out mistakes that people conveniently ignore.

People will use whatever flawed argument they can to justify a belief. I watched that link, his ability with blades is impressive but he talks rubbish at times as well. Still that Obi-wan vs Maul duel is probably one of the best, outside of the OT.

I think there's an order of magnitude of difference even between Luke's barge kick to the disappearing dagger of the pratorian guard, or the guard intentionally missing. The simple fact that Luke's kick was probably missed (yes, it should have been caught, but it was missed) and the guards, in one case the guy knew he was going to hit her so hilariously does a swing to "keep things going" and the other, they outright caught the problem, then they decide to edit instead of reshoot or just remove it. At the very least they should have had him with only one dagger or show it malfunctioning or something to make it believable. Then of course this is 2019, and lets face it, there are a whole lot more people going over these films then there were back in the mid 80s.

So sure, there is a double standard, but it isn't as great as some suggest imo. The double standard is because we expect more. Furthermore, in RotJ, there was no knowledge, the tech simply wasn't there (or at the very least was far more difficult to detect and edit) than it is now.

I'm not a big defender of the OT, but I agree with another that ObiWan/Maul is not on the same level of a mistake. The lightsaber flipping I always found stupid, even upon first seeing it, but it isn't a mistake per se, it's just stupid looking that Jedi would try and intimidate themselves that way lol.

As for Luke striking the guy into the Sarlaac, I don't see the issue with that, other than maybe he should have sliced him in half? They simply didn't have the budget for that I presume and they probably wanted to keep severing limbs for more impactful scenes... and likely didn't want to challenge the viewer rating. I think it's far easier to find an explanation to that one (the guy had some armor on his shoulder or something) than for Rey's fight scene, or as the guy states, Rey's training montage lol.

Thanks for the reply though, seeing that I think I remember seeing this discussion before and I remember now how the lovers argued this. I really do believe though, that taken at equal value, Rey's fight scene is more egregious. They knew the problem and tried to cover it without really doing a very good job at covering it (while the worst of the 4 up there is Luke's kick, and that was likely an oversight due to limited tech). They didn't take enough shoots of the fight to fill in with something better or more believable that forced them to come up with a very cheap solution. I'm sure budget was an issue, to be fair, and yes standards are higher now, but I think that's a good thing, and in a day where fans have access to blue rays, which is probably better tech than GL had making RotJ, I think the standards should be higher and quite simply, RJ failed to meet them. I don't fault Daisy at all for any of this, this is all on RJ, and these issues at the very least can't b e passed off to JJ.

Edit: I will put in a caveat here. It is possible they come up with an explanation for those scenes with Rey in the battle with the guards. However, it's so bad, it will be on the same level as Han's blunder with parsecs, and likely a tad worse (and just like that one, it's not on Ford, just like this is not on Ridley's). Maybe Rey force pushed the guy to miss, maybe they add a scene where the guard drops the second dagger because it explodes/malfunctions while behind Rey's body. However we'll always know the truth that it was a blunder. In such a complicated choreography, they should have had multiple takes and camera angles to avoid both these blunders imo.

I agree. It was an awesome fight, but there were still mistakes and editing issues presented in the fight which is the point I brought up. I enjoyed the TLJ fight it reminded me of the old school samurai movies and I like those type of movies. If people say the fighting in TLJ wasn't practical, then majority of the fights in PT is definitely not practical. Those type of fights would be good in a competition for points but not in real life fight to death. I like how TLJ went more towards the raw light saber fighting of the OT rather than the john woo laser shows of the PT. Honestly, I think the best light saber fight is Maul vs Obi-Wan in rebels. That's how I picture Jedi Master is suppose to fight, short and quick.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jul 19, 2019, Original Post Date: Jul 19, 2019 ---
Fair point, but that one little mistake doesn't make the whole movie bad and shows the pettiness that some people will go and that's my whole point. I'm willing to bet majority of the people who saw TLJ for the first time didn't even notice the mistake. It wasn't until some cheap YouTube channel that brought it up. Just like how people parroted RLM for the PT bash. There is no excuses for sloppy fighting in ROTJ on Jabba's barge (there are movies with smaller budge that has done better in same time frame). He swung the light saber like a baseball bat, thats not how you weld a light saber. As for the guy being knocked off, if you look closely, the light saber didn't even touch the guy. (I couldn't find a bigger gif) There still no excuses on how poorly the fighting is in that scene. The movie came out in the middle of the kung fu and marital arts fad.I'm treating all movies exactly the same, it is unfair to judge one movie with harshness, but refuses to do the same thing with the previous movies due to the product of its time. That's a cop-out honestly. I can find tons of editing issues in the OT and PT due to lazy editors and directors which modern tech could fix even back when the OT was re-released on bluray. My point is, TLJ is being judge way more harshly than any previous SW movies. You can't complain about Movie L for similar mistakes that was in Movie D, it's unfair and that's my point. You have to judge the series as a whole not selecting whats convenient at the time. I personally don't hate or like TLJ, I'm in the middle between the two extremes and I find it mediocre to be honest. I never was attached to Luke, so his portrayal really didn't bother me. I just wanted to see his Jedi Academy but both movies robbed us that. We're 30 years too late for a proper ST, and i've already came to terms with that. I'm just waiting for this ST to be done so the franchise can move on from the limited narrow view that people want to keep SW in.

Sure looks like it touches to me. There is a (sort of) lens flare at the moment of contact. Not to mention that it makes no sense to say it didn't touch when you consider the fact that the actors on set were using legit lightsaber props. Lord Maul (Ray Park) would have had to stop the momentum on his own instead of tapping Obi-Wan's (McGregor's) "blade".

I tell ya this, they sure as heck were touching in all the behind the scene practice duels you see between the actors. I find it pretty tough to believe that when they were filming for real, Park stopped the blade on his own.

Sabre. Not "saber". (And I don't care if Lucasfilm spells it "saber", they're wrong too) A sabre is an English/French weapon and has an English/French spelling of sabre. Not saber.
