I was going to see it Saturday then a friend and I watched TFA and decided screw it let's see if we can find seats.
We found a few at one of the last showings
Watching TFA right into TLJ was awesome.
It answers what needs answered. It leaves open what doesn't require a clear answer.

I will get slammed for this, but there are a lot of people who call themselves "star wars" fans. however when you read their posts the don't like Jedi, they don't like Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, Clone Wars, Rebels, Star Wars comics and every word out of their mouth is spent on how much they "hate" this star wars movie or that "star wars movie".

Let me give an example, dating myself here, but. When I was in high school, Michael Jacksons Bad came out. Everyone in school talked about how they hated Michael Jackson. I could not find a Michael Jackson fan with a 100 bill. Yet Bad, which everyone hated sold some 20 million copies. In short, a lot of people lied.

Now, I don't know what some people expect in a Star Wars movie. I'm not sure what I think of this one yet. But if I hated everything Star Wars, why would I continue to call myself a "star wars" fans. They are Luke in this movie. They need to watch it again and realize, that broken old man is them. They need to let it go and remember it for what it is. They are watching every star wars movie wanting to feel like the felt the first time they saw it.

    There's only one problem

    They aren't twelve anymore.

This movie has been bouncing around .y head since last night. I had my complaints about certain things, but I also really liked the aspects of moving the franchise ahead. That being said, I don't have TON of faith that indeed that will be JJ's game plan moving forward. I can't wait to discuss some details of this movie with someone, but its almost TOO fresh in my head and a bit confusing as well...so I'm gonna wait until the 2nd viewing to dive into the meat of this stuff. That way I know if I'm speaking out of disappointment /excitement/or good sense to calcuably judge what I witnessed. First impression though is that I liked it. I just don't know where it stands in the big picture yet.

There is a level of "hipster-ism" involved. Happened with the PT too. Happens when everything hits peak popularity.

I think they can still be fans. If you only like one piece of Star Wars you are still a fan. You just an an immersed fan or whatever you want to call it but I think they are still fans.

You are absolutely right though, you will never get the feeling you got when you saw Star Wars for the first time again. It's impossible. It can give you glimpses and bursts of it but it can never bring back that truly wide-eyed feeling.

Liked all that stuff as well. My two favorite moments where Luke's death, loved the two suns, I cried when I saw that. I also loved the lightsaber toss to Kylo from Rey, that ends with a hole in a Praetorian guard's head. But I also loved Poe at the beginning with his X-wing (he was awesome)... just so so so much! Also liked the visions between Rey and Kylo. And Yoda, how could I forget Yoda.

You've come to the right place. Welcome, @Kybofett! Looking forward to seeing what you have to say. :)

In a way, TLJ felt to me like Episodes XIII and IX all at once. The door is wide open on IX now, they aren't beholden to anything at this point. I'm certainly going to miss where we have been, but I can't wait to see where we are headed.

I felt the same way, I'm glad that they kind of combined elements of ESB and ROTJ into this one. Now they can really go anywhere in the next one. Hopefully JJ feels like he can do something creative.

I really love the line Kylo Ren said to Rey. Something like, you are not a Skywalker, you have no part in this story.

This. This right here. These three sentences somehow manage to perfectly sum up what I've been trying to process for hours now.

The first time the movie overloaded my brain. So much to feel, see and think of.
I loved it the second time.
Mature heroes that have gone to hell and back again.
Young folks growing on their troubles.
Intelligent humor at the right place.
A brave man this RJ; opens up the field for the next generation to take over!

I haven't mentioned this yet. Anybody else love what they did with Hux? The stuff that happened to him was hilarious. So glad he didn't die like I thought he would.

It was the perfect way for Snoke to exert his power over him. Calls him a cur. Humiliates him in public....

After initilly walking out of the theatre, I felt very overwhelmed and didn't know what to think besides that I loved it. Upon letting it sit with me and thinking about it more and more, it's only getting even better. I Can't wait to watch it again! :)

This is the kind of idiocy that comes as a natural result of there being a "for those loved the movie" thread and a "for those who hated the movie" thread.

If you don't like the thread that's fine. You are more than entitled to your opinion. But there's no need to come into it and trash the thread. If you don't like it just stay out. Hope you can just see we are trying to enjoy the experience even more. Just like the people in the hate thread are trying to cope together with people that understand them :).
