Rey's vision with the lightsaber ?

IMHO, the vision was about being a Skywalker. It began in the Bespin corridor, with echoes of Vader, Yoda and Luke's "No!" It showed the fall of Luke's academy and Rey's arrival on Jakku. Finally, the brief glimpse of the climax battle demonstrated her place (along with Kylo's) as inheritors of that legacy.

I'm having a hard time imagining that any parent would leave her on such a world. Part of me wonders if Kylo left her there. He couldn't kill his young cousin (damn that Light's temptation!) so he took her there, wiped her mind and returned to Snoke. That would explain why he reacted so strongly to the news of a "girl" down on Jakku. He realized right away who she was. He undoubtedly would think of her as something of a sin come back to haunt him.

I think Han and Leia (and Maz) had suspicions but likely believed Luke's daughter was dead. So they hinted about the issue, tiptoed around it, but couldn't quite make the leap due to the pressing circumstances at hand. Lots of things seemed to tease it, but the vision really drove it home.

 

She's a Skywalker.

There's too much pointing towards her being Luke's daughter not to be so. The Bespin stuff, Yoda, Obi Wan...

Everyone thought she was dead after the massacre at the academy, and someone on Kylo's side (possibly Kylo himself, in a light side moment) left her on Jakku, expecting her never to be found or find out her true purpose.

 

Who was it that Kylo stabbed in the KOR attack bit? Couldn't make out who it was.

 

It looked like Zuvio, but that wouldn't make sense.

Also, something else not pointed out on here (if it has, I apologise) - at the point in the vision where she is seeing the KOR and Kylo, she somehow is seen by Kylo, even though it is a flashback.

To me, that shows that she was there at the same place in that moment - but as a child.

 

Yeah I thought it was Zuvio!!! But that messed with my head even more, doesn't make sense, right?

And yeah, he does notice her, those scenes moved so fast that it's hard to make sense of anything (which I guess was the point)

 

Come now... it's only 17 months. No need to make the wait sound so long.

Further to this, the Visual Dictionary states that the helmet belonged to Captain Dosmit Raeh of the Tierfon Yellow Aces.
Is there anything important about this? Probably not.

I heard a voice call her name, and another voice talk about "these are the first steps..." or something along those lines.

What...? That was clearly Unkar Plutt in the english language. The hand even looked like Unkar.

Could be another Kyuzo... they seem to like those big hat/helmet things.

Looking forward to the home release so I can look at things closer.


I wonder if they already filmed extra material for the force vision which will be used in later movies... particularly with the younger Rey.
That would be some amazing foresight on Lucasfilm's part.

 

Watched German dub, too and to me it was clearly Unkar. The hand what pretty obvious.

 

@Quill; I never considered that Rey was actually witness to the massacre at the temple. If that happened, and if she is indeed the daughter of Luke Skywalker, it is entirely possible someone left her on Jakku for her own safety. Aside from the Rebel helmet, I did not notice any associated with the Rebellion on Jakku, but a lot remnants of the Empire. Someone left her there, that is for certain. I don't think Kylo knows who Rey is.

 

Does anyone remember what the little Rey was wearing???

 

Am I the only one who heard Ben Kenobi??? It was before Kylo appeared in the woods.

 

Did you also notice that Rey's helmet is eerily similar to Leia's helmet in her comic book ?

 

I heard Obi-Wan, too. Which is impressive considering Alec Guiness died 15 years ago.

Also, for all the hand-wringing about the flashback before the release, I gotta say I greatly enjoyed the way they executed this sequence. Really felt dream-like, atmospheric, and disorienting.

 

It's Excalibur. Kylo tried to force grab it but the force chooses Rey.

 

It's not like the saber was going for Kylo and was like, "Gotcha!" To Kylo and goes to Rey...Rey willed it and she got lucky, like how her force thing with James Bond worked only at the last second .

@AstromechRecords; That whole conversation you just had there made me laugh. I think Rey is able to draw the lightsaber to her, because her bond is stronger to the weapon. It is drawn to her, and she to it, for reasons currently unknown. Dun dun dun.

 

Lol what was your favorite part ? and it's hard on my phone, but if you google the cover picture of Leia's comic book as a part of The Jttfa books, and watch the movie while Rey is eating and she wears a pilot's helmet, that helmet she wears looks similar to the one from Leia's comic .

Luke Skywalker donned a similar helmet, and I believe it is the standard issue Rebel fighter pilot helmet.
